Infertility is the inability to get pregnant and give birth to a child .For heterosexual couples, one third of causes of infertility are due to a male problem, one third are due to a female problems, and one third are due to combination or unknown reasons.

When the cause of the infertility is found to come from the female partner, it's considered female infertility or "female factor" infertility.


PHYSICAL CAUSES OF INFERTILITY

There are many possible causes of infertility. Some couples have "unexplained" infertility or "multifactorial" infertility (multiple causes, often both male and female factors). Some possible causes of female factor infertility can include:

• Uterus Problems: This could include polyps, fibroids, septum or adhesions inside the cavity of the uterus.

• Fallopian tubes problems: as in pelvic inflammatory disease, usually caused by chlamydia and gonorrhoea.

• Problems with ovulation: These could be because of Hormonal imbalances, eating disorder, substance abuse, thyroid dysfunctions, Pituitary tumours and Problems with egg number and quality.

Many factors can decrease fertility. Some of the specific factors include:

• Age. (Women over age 35 have a higher risk of having fertility issues.)

• Hormone issue that prevents ovulation.

• Abnormal menstrual cycle.

• Being Overweight / Obesity.

• Being underweight.

• Endometriosis.

• Autoimmune disorders (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto's disease, and thyroid gland conditions).

• Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

• Primary Ovary Insufficiency.

• Excessive Alcohol drinking

• Smoking.

• Sexually transmitted infections.

• Excessive Hormonal medications

• A past ectopic (tubal) pregnancy.


SYMPTOMS OF INFERTILITY

The main symptom of infertility is the inability to become pregnant.

When a menstrual cycle is too long (35 days or more), too short (less than 21 days), irregular or absent then that can mean that you're not ovulating.

There may be no other outward signs or symptoms.

The following things may be kept in mind to help optimize fertility:

Maintain a normal weight. Ovulation disorders may be present in overweight and underweight women. Strenuous, intense exercise of more than five hours a week has been associated with decreased ovulation.

Avoid alcohol. Heavy alcohol use may lead to decreased fertility.

Quit smoking. Tobacco has multiple negative effects on fertility, not to mention your general health and the health of a fetus.

Reduce stress. Couples experiencing psychological stress had poorer results with infertility treatment. If you can, find a way to reduce stress in your life before trying to become pregnant.

Limit caffeine. Limit coffee intake to one to two cups of 6 to 8 ounces of coffee per day.

1. Relax. Relaxation is an active state of deep rest where the mind is quiet and the body is physiologically calm.

2. Stop taking stress. . Stress is heavily implicated in any disease. Review your life and see if you can avoid the causes of stress or change your response to them. Stop worrying about the past or future and live in the present. As that is all you can influence.

• Iron: found in, nettle tea, dark green vegetabies, seaweeds and prunes.

• Vitamin C: found in raw fruits, especially berries, broccoli, red peppers and sprouted seeds.

• Vitamin E: found in wheat germ, olives, avocados, nuts and seeds.

• Vitamin A (beta-carotene): found in carrots, tomatoes, cabbage, spinach, and broccoli.

• Probiotic bacteria: found in natural (unsweetened) sauerkraut and miso, yoghurt.

• Prebiotic bacteria: found in bananas, chicory and artichoke.

• Protein is also vital. Pregnant women need good quality usable protein every day. Nuts, legumes, green superfoods and whole grains such as quinoa are good forms of protein. Protein builds muscle, tissue, enzymes, hormones and antibodies for you and your baby. These foods also have B vitamins and iron, which is important for red blood cells. Moderate protein consumption, preferably from plant food sources, is recommended. These foods contain other vital nutrients.
