Migraine is the 3rd most common disease in the world, with an estimated global prevalence of 14.7 percent.

Migraines are severe headaches that are often preceded or accompanied by flashing lights, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting and sensitiveness to light.

Some people also suffer from strange tastes and smells.

Sufferers try to get them more periodically.

They can last from an hour to several days and can be extremely debilitating.

Migraines are thought to be linked to a constriction to blood vessels in the brain.

The constriction may be followed by a dilatation in which they may filled.

CAUSES OF MIGRAINE

Though migraine causes aren't fully understood, genetics and environmental factors appear to play a role.

Considerable evidence supports an association between migraine headaches and instability of blood vessels. The sequence of events causes excessive constriction of blood vessels followed by rebound dilation. Research shows confirmation of the reduction of blood flow sometimes to a very low and critical level prior to the onset of migraine attack. This is followed by a stage of increased blood flow which can persist for more than 48 hrs.

Other causes could include Liver Imbalance, Poor posture or previous neck injury, Blood sugar imbalances, Hormonal fluctuations etc.

TRIGGER FACTORS FOR MIGRAINE

There are a number of migraine triggers, including:

Hormonal changes in women. Fluctuations in estrogen, such as before or during menstrual periods, pregnancy and menopause, seem to trigger headaches in many women.

Hormonal medications, such as oral contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy, also can worsen migraines. Some women, however, find their migraines occurring less often when taking these medications.

Drinks. These include alcohol, especially wine, and too much caffeine, such as coffee.

Stress. Stress at work or home can cause migraines.

Sensory stimuli. Bright lights and sun glare can induce migraines, as can loud sounds. Strong smells - including perfume, paint thinner, secondhand smoke and others - trigger migraines in some people.

Sleep changes. Missing sleep, getting too much sleep or jet lag can trigger migraines in some people.

Physical factors. Intense physical exertion, including sexual activity, might provoke migraines.

Weather changes. A change of weather or barometric pressure can prompt a migraine.

Medications. Oral contraceptives and vasodilators, such as nitro-glycerine, can aggravate migraines.

Foods. Aged cheeses and salty and processed foods might trigger migraines. So might skipping meals or fasting.

Food additives. These include the sweetener aspartame and the preservative monosodium glutamate (MSG), found in many foods.

SYMPTOMS OF MIGRAINE

Migraines, which often begin in childhood, adolescence or early adulthood, can progress through four stages: prodrome, aura, attack and post-drome. Not everyone who has migraines goes through all stages.

Prodrome

One or two days before a migraine, you might notice subtle changes that warn of an upcoming migraine, including:

• Constipation

• Mood changes, from depression to euphoria

• Food cravings

• Neck stiffness

• Increased thirst and urination

• Frequent yawning

Aura

This may occur before or during migraines. Auras are reversible symptoms of the nervous system. They are visual or other disturbances. Each symptom may begin gradually, build up over several minutes and lasts for 20 to 60 minutes.

Eg:

• Vision loss

• Seeing various shapes, bright spots or flashes of light

• Sensation of Pins and needles in an arm or leg

• Weakness or numbness in the face or one side of the body

• Difficulty speaking or hearing noises

• Uncontrollable jerking or other movements

Attack

A migraine generally lasts from 3 to 72 hours if untreated. Frequency varies from person to person. Migraines might occur seldom or several times a month.

During a migraine, you might have:

• Throbbing and pulsating pain is usually there on one side of your head, but many times on both sides

• Sensitivity to light, sound, and sometimes smell and touch

• Nausea and vomiting

Post-drome

After a migraine attack, you might feel drained and confused for a couple of hours. Sudden head movement might bring on the pain again briefly.

COMPLICATIONS OF MIGRAINE

Generally People abuse themselves with excessive medications which only act as palliatives and the headache returns.

You then use more pain medication, which continues the cycle.

ACTION PLAN WITH HOLISITIC HEALING FOR MIGRAINE

The aim is to identify the emotional root cause of this disease in the person, to keep a check on the physical causes and triggers and adopt natural and efficient ways to deal with the situation .

PREVENTION AND LIFE STYLE CHANGES IN MIGRAINES

1. Be mindful about what you eat and drink. If you see a pattern over time, stay away from that item. That could be a triggering factor of your migraine.

2. Eat regularly. Avoid skipping meals.

3. Curb the caffeine. Try to slowly ease off caffeine if it seems to be one of your headache triggers.

4. Exercise regularly. Overdoing a workout may trigger a headache for some people, but regular and moderate aerobic exercise may make migraines shorter and of lesser intensity, and happen less often for many people. It also helps control stress, another trigger.

5. Keep up your energy. Eat on a regular schedule, and don't let yourself get dehydrated.

6. Check your posture, especially if you are working on Computer all day. Try to keep the spine long, and the shoulders down as this allows good circulation to the head.

CONNECTION OF MIGRAINES WITH MIND-BODY-SOUL/ EMOTIONAL CAUSES OF MIGRAINE

Majority of migraine patients report that stress is associated with the onset of migraine attacks.

Your mind is the most powerful tool you have.

Every thought you get, causes changes throughout your body.

Neutral, calming or happy thoughts have the opposite effect.

It is always a set of emotions or an emotional state that manifests itself in the form of a disease.

The key emotions that generally co-exist so as to become the root cause of Migraine are as follows.

Migraine represents something in your past that is not complete and which remains unforgiven.

Sometimes, there is also a starvation of Love that you are facing in life. As a result there is an abiding fear of rejection and abandonment in response to which you try to develop a perfectionistic-compensation attempt. By trying to earn your right to love.

When your mind does not allow an outlet for your feelings or frustrations, you create a blockage of energy in and around the head.

The solution is that you need to relinquish control of your emotions by allowing yourself to express how you feel in a constructive way.

Here are ways to master the mind/body connection to reduce or control your Migraine attacks.

1. Relax. Relaxation is an active state of deep rest where the mind is quiet and the body is physiologically calm.

Meditation, guided visualization, body scanning and slow, diaphragmatic breathing are some of the many techniques that achieve relaxation.

2. Stop taking stress. Stress is heavily implicated in high cholesterol and heart diseases generally. Review your life and see if you can avoid the causes of stress or change your response to them. Stop worrying about the past or future and live in the present. As that is all you can influence.

3. Express your emotions. Emotions are energy. Suppressing them takes physical effort that can cause pain.

Repressed emotions cause poor health. Suppressing emotion also keeps you stuck, unable to move past what you are avoiding. By contrast, writing in a journal or talking to someone about how you feel, and even just sitting quietly and "mindfully" to fully experience and acknowledge the feeling, all lead to feeling better both emotionally and physically.

4. Try to be cheerful. When you laugh your body produces endorphins, the body's natural painkillers.

5. Process your trauma. There could be a connection between earlier experiences of psychological trauma and chronic pain and illness of the past.

90% of the diseases are a result of build-up of unresolved negative emotions and pre-programming of your mind as discussed above. Your soul tries to express these unresolved negative emotions first through your thoughts and feelings. If you fail to listen to the messages that are crying out to be heard, these messages become stronger and then harder for you to ignore. They then express and manifest themselves by means of pain, discomfort or ill-health.

Along with Emotional management, Spiritual programming of your mind is a must to unwind yourself from the clutches of the negative emotions you've held so long which has ultimately led to the disease.

This we achieve by means of:

1- Facilitated Spiritual Detox

2- Meditation

3- Identifying the imbalance and healing at the level of the Chakra

4- Energy healing
