HOW IS MINDFUL EATING ACHIEVED?

It is very important to understand and incorporate certain ideas within us for a true mindful eating

Ask yourself these questions every time you eat something and set your intentions based on your answers

1) Plan out your meal times for the day and set aside time to appreciate and enjoy your meals. Try to eat at the same time every day to keep your digestion cycle regular.

2) Pay attention to the details. In order to really appreciate food, use all your five senses.

Sense of sight: Let your eyes appreciate the beauty of the food that you eat. Appreciate its colours.

Sense of smell: Appreciate the aroma of the food.

Sense of taste : Savour your food. Appreciate the taste in every morsel that you eat. Give time to your taste buds to relish the flavours.

Sense of hearing : Appreciate the sound of your food. The crunch of your chip, The snap of the carrot and cucumber, Research at Oxford University has shown that listening to your food sounds feels incredible. Also it is extremely important as it correlates the brain with the true experience of eating food.

Sense of Touch: Always try to touch your food. Feel and appreciate its texture. Feeling what you are going to eat, directly stimulates your digestive system and creates greater acceptance for the nutrients.

3) BE REALISTIC :- Mindful eating is not going to start as a full blown meal ritual three times a day. Learn the art to listen to your body. Your body is a perfect creation and demands food when needed by it. Let the supply meet the demand only at those particular times.

4) NO DISTRACTION:- Really paying attention to your food means no distraction. So put down the cell phone, Ipads and other electronic devices and focus on your food. Turn the TV off. With these distractions, you are more likely to overeat.
